Parent and Caregiver Code of Conduct Policy

Purpose:

To provide a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all children, staff, and families. This policy outlines the expectations of parent and caregiver behaviour when engaging with our service and staff.

Scope:

This policy applies to all parents, caregivers, and family members interacting with staff, children, and other families across our services.

Our Commitment:

We are committed to fostering a culture of respect, collaboration, and trust. Our team works hard to ensure the highest standards of care and education. In return, we expect all interactions to be courteous and professional.

Expected Behaviour:

Parents and caregivers are expected to:

  • Treat all staff, children, and other families with respect and dignity.
  • Communicate concerns or complaints calmly and constructively.
  • Use appropriate language and tone in all verbal and written communication.
  • Respect staff privacy and working hours.
  • Unacceptable Behaviour Includes (but is not limited to):
  • Shouting, swearing, or aggressive tone or body language.
  • Making personal or derogatory remarks toward staff.
  • Threatening or intimidating behaviour.
  • Repeated unfounded complaints or harassment of staff.
  • Spreading misinformation or defamatory comments in person or on social media.
  • Managing Breaches of the Code of Conduct – 3-Step Process

Initial Warning and Discussion

A calm, respectful conversation will be held to clarify concerns, outline the expected standards of behaviour, and give the parent/caregiver an opportunity to respond.

Formal Written Warning

If inappropriate behaviour continues, a written warning will be issued. This will clearly outline the breach, expected changes, and consequences if the behaviour is repeated.

Termination of Place

In serious or repeated cases, where behaviour poses a risk to staff or the wellbeing of the service, we reserve the right to terminate the child’s place without further notice.

Agreement to the Code

By enrolling a child in our service, parents and caregivers are expected to adhere to this Code of Conduct at all times. This expectation applies regardless of whether the policy has been formally signed, as it is a condition of participation in our service. The Code exists to ensure a safe and respectful environment for children, staff, and families alike.
